PRESS NOTICE 07/06 19TH DECEMBER 2007

The Billy Wright Inquiry - Resumption of oral hearings

On the 26 October 2007, the Inquiry Panel issued a statement saying that they proposed to publish an Interim Report in relation to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) and its dealings with the Inquiry.  Further consideration has been given to this matter and, in order to save time, rather than publish a formal report, the Inquiry has decided to deal with this matter by way of a Position Paper.

The Inquiry Panel has decided that oral hearings will resume on Monday 21 January 2008 at Banbridge Court House, Victoria Street, County Down.

On that day, the Inquiry Chairman, Lord MacLean, will make a statement in relation to the PSNI. Following that statement, the Inquiry will rise to enable the PSNI and Represented Parties to consider what the Position Paper says.

Oral hearings will then resume on Monday 28 January from which time they will run from Monday to Thursday each week until Thursday 13 March 2008.

Following this there will be a break for Easter and hearings will resume thereafter.

Any questions resulting from this Press Notice should be addressed to the Secretary of the Inquiry.
